Flight Sim 777

Flight Sim Boeing 777Recently I updated Flight Sim with a key update that introduced a new Boeing 777 Airliner as well as a much needed Flap animations.  As usual the Boeing 777 includes a full 3D cab and animated and retracting wheels.  Flight Sim now has 3 scenes and 8 unique airplanes (all free), making it a serious contender for many of the other Flight Simulators featuring a buy to fly model.

Years ago I had this brilliant idea that I wanted to learn how computers play chess.  What is the best way to learn, well of course you have to write your own chess engine.

Chess Pro 2D
Chess Pro 2D

I did just that and documented the process on a blog called ChessBin.com.  The blog still exists along with the various downloads of the finished Chess Game.  This project spawned an Online Chess site called GeeksWithChess.com.  Financially speaking both were a flop, however many of my first lessons on running a “business” came from these two sites and they made “some” money that I then used to start 3583 Bytes.

Years later I still had this chess engine written in C#.  So I decided to port it to Unity and create a 3D chess game based on my engine.  I am happy to announce that this game is now available for Android, iOS, Windows Phone & Windows Store.  To find out more visit the Chess Pro Information Page.

Train Sim – Subway Update

Train Sim SubwayA new version of Train Sim is now available for Android and iOS, featuring a Train Sim Subwaycompletely new and much larger Subway Scene. An updated Subway Scene has been requested by users for some time now, and I decided to not disappoint.  The new Subway Scene features 15 Stations and 3 outside portions.  Simply put, its huge!

This new version of Train Sim also contains another much requested feature, electrical poles! When running an electric train, the Metropolis and Port scenes will display electrical posts above the track.  I have not yet added this to the other scenes because I am not sure how well the electrical poles will look in the Desert.

Train Sim SubwayTrain Sim Future: I am planning to add additional subway trains and expand some of the existing train to feature 3D cabs with the eventual goal of having 3D cabs in all Train Sim trains.  Also electrical poles will for sure be added to the Airport Scene

One of the challenges I am currently facing is download size.  Train Sim Android is currently just under 50MB, meaning it can be downloaded as a single file.  Once I cross the 50MB file size I will be forced to split Train Sim into 2 downloads (main and additional content).  This is something I really do not want to do.  So I will have to spend some time modifying existing content to be stored more efficiently.  This will hopefully postpone this issue by an extra year.

Holiday Updates

Over the holidays I updated several apps, for Android and iOS.  Ant Sim received a requested update that will allow the AI Ants to also pick up food and return it to the Ant Hill.  Car Crashers received a new Porsche  type car as well as Explosive Barrels.  Kids Car Racers received an update that added a new Formula One type car.  Both Kids Car Racers and Car Crashers are now x86 Android compatible.

Currently I am working on an update to the Subway Scene in Train Sim.  This is a complete rewrite of the Subway scene that will make the track much larger and increase the number of Stations from 3 to 15.  Also there will be an outside portion to the track, going over a bridge.  This new update will also add x86 processor support to Train Sim.

Post Call Ads (Scary)

Today I received the scariest advertisement offer to date.  The offer if I understood it correctly, centres around placing ads after a user places a call based on their last number dialled.  I assume with the number they can get a general sense of area and interest, specially if you are calling a business.  So the basic idea is you install a game, and there are no ads in the game, but you get an ad after each phone call.  The company offering this is http://www.calldorado.com/

Post Call Ads No Thanks

I am shocked that this is even possible, I firmly believe that advertisements should be confined to the app/game they were installed with and should not be allowed to exist outside of the sandbox that is the app.  I believe most users will not understand that as a result of a game they will receive ads in after their calls.  Also I can imagine trying to chase the advertisements back to the game they were installed with will be difficult.

My advice is ready your permissions list before installing any game/app.  Games produced by 3583 Bytes require no special permissions and will not be using “Post Call Ads” in the future.
