Trains & Dinosaurs

Its been a busy few weeks. First I updated Train Sim with 2 (yes 2) new Trains; Class 91 & Bombardier Talent. If that was not enough I also added a new Train Selector and fixed a bunch of bugs.

I am proud to say that Train Sim now features 44 Trains. Thats 44 high quality realistic trains with full 3D cabins and custom sounds. This update is now available on Android, Amazon & iOS.

I have to say Train Sim came a long way in just over 2 years, I can only imagine where it will be in 2 more.

If that was not enough I also posted an Update to Dinosaur Sim. Although Dinosaur Sim is a fairly recent addition to my game lineup, it has proven to be very popular. So this week I added 2 new Dinosaurs (Styracosaurs & Kentrosaurus) to Dinosaur Sim. I am happy to say that this update is also already available on Android & iOS with Amazon coming soon.

I am also working on a Windows 10 version of Dinosaur Sim, I may be able to submit it next week.

Train Sim Update

Last week I posted a new version of Train Sim for Android, and Amazon. This update features Double Engines which is one of the features most requested by Train Sim users I also took the opportunity to add Game Controller Support. This is not a popular request but it does open Train Sim to devices that support Game Controllers such as Amazon TV or Xbox One. Please let me know how the controller works on Android game controllers. Lastly I fixed the direction of steam when trains go backwards.

As always the iOS and Windows 10 update will come slightly after the Android releases.

Publishing to multiple platforms

Ok so I have spent the last week porting the new versions of my games to various platforms. Here is my list of accomplishments:

The newest version of Train Sim got ported to iOS & Amazon Stores
The newest version of Flight Sim got published to iOS & Amazon Stores
Paint the World has been submitted to Amazon and is awaiting release.
Dinosaur Sim also got submitted to iOS and is awaiting release.

I still have to build the new version of Train Sim for Windows Store & Windows Phone.

Train Sim WAP-7 Update Released

Train Sim update for Android is now Live, this update includes:

New WAP-7 Locomotive with new Cars
New Steam/Smoke Affect for Steam Engines
Fixed Incorrect Speed showing compared to Real top Speed.

WEP-7 Indian Railways My graphic artist send me an in progress preview of the WAP-7 Indian Railways Engine for an upcoming release of Train Sim. There is still allot of work he has to do on the interior of the Train, but as you can see its looking great already.

Indian trains are frequently requested by Train Sim users, often with a daily reminder. I am happy o be able to add this train to Train Sim in the near future WEP-7 Indian Railways

At this point I am guessing I am about 4 weeks a
way from having this train published as I
am also working on a new game (more information coming soon) so please don’t email me every day asking when its ready 🙂

Train Sim Android with new Sounds!

Sounds Sounds Sounds!

After weeks of work I am finally ready to release the new version of Train Sim. This is a huge update addressing one of the most common requests for Train Sim; Better Sounds.

Each train engine now has its own custom sounds for its engine, horn, bell and breaks. When uncompressed there are over 85MB of new sound data. I think the end result is quite impressive, giving the simulation a much higher level of realism. As a bonus I also added a rain sound that turns on during the Rain weather setting.

In this update I also fixed some smaller bugs and made some minor improvements to the Country Loop Scene train stations.

Train Sim Southern England One of the constant complaints I get about Train Sim is that the locomotive sounds need improvement. In the past I have been hampered by the 50 MB file limit in the Google Play store (audio files take space). I have also had a hard time finding a sound engineer that was able to come up with these realistic locomotive sounds.

Fortunately both of these challenges are now solved. So my focus for the next Train Sim release is to add realistic and unique audio for each of the 41 Trains in Train Sim. I have already implemented several of the new audio effects and they sound great.

Train Sim Southern England Route

Everyone onboard, Train Sim has been updated once again. This time I added a new Southern England inspired route. Old Churches, Ruined Castles, Windmills, Victorian Architecture, we have got them all. Now available for Android, iOS & Windows Store coming soon.

Train Sim 3.4.5 Released

Train Sim 3.4.5 for Android is now live. This new update features a new Chicago “L” CTA 5000 subway train with a realistic 3D driver cabin as well as a passenger 3D interior.

Also in this update are much requested
longer trains. I managed to increase each train by at least 1 additional coach CTA 5000 Inside (without killing performance) and in some cases by 2-4 to match the exact historical configuration. Opposite Trains also received a length increase. Also in this update the Dash 9 Interior cabin has been significantly improved, eliminating one of the weaker 3D cabins in Train Sim. I am currently working on releasing this update for iOS and Windows Store/Phone.

What’s New in Train Sim

It has been a while since I updated Train Sim so I wanted to write a post about what I have been working on. The main theme for the next update will be longer trains. This means I will try to increase the number of cars for as many trains as possible.

The reason the trains were originally kept short was to make sure Train Sim performs well on slower devices. The idea behind this tactic is that if the train is shorter the number of cars the GPU/CPU had to draw and move each frame would be reduced.

However longer trains is the feature that is the most requested by users (other then indian trains) so I decided to address this issue. I am hoping that over the last year the number of slow/low memory devices have declined and the newer phones on the market will be able to handle these longer trains. In order to make sure this is true I will probably only update the most popular trains, such as the Pendolino, Amtrak, TGV etc. However if this update proves correct I will also increase car numbers for other trains as well.
